Children's Map of Cornwall

I wanted to add another map to my portfolio last year to go with my Gloucestershire map, so over the summer I illustrated this Map of Cornwall. I went to university in Falmouth in Cornwall so the county is very close to my heart and this turned out to be quite a personal piece with a few of my favourite places and Cornish things (cream teas!) added to the map. I'm hoping to get an online shop up and running soon, so hopefully I will have prints available of both Gloucestershire and Cornwall!

Hope everyone is having a happy Sunday! :-)

Illustration for Levi

I recently did an illustration for my cousin's lovely little boy Levi. The London scene is something a bit different for me, but it was really fun to paint!

Swan Lake Illustrations

Last November I worked with the U.S. Educational publisher Seed Learning to illustrate a picture book version of Swan Lake for early readers. Last week I received an exciting parcel in the post with two copies of the book all the way from Korea! It was a really fun project to work on and made me face my fear of illustrating human characters!

Here are a couple of spreads from the book...

Cheltenham Open Studios 2015

My work displayed at deepspaceworks for COS15.

If you follow me on Twitter or Facebook you will have seen that I recently took part in Cheltenham Open Studios 2015, a biyearly event, where nearly 200 artists across Cheltenham open up their homes and studios to the public.

My studio space at deepspaceworks Art Centre in Cheltenham is home to 15 other artists and creatives and, alongside the studios being opened up to the public, we had an exciting and diverse exhibition running alongside it including work from studio members and associates.

Cirencester Hare Festival 2015

Meet Patience the hare!

As part of the Cirencester Hare Festival 2015 I was asked to decorate a small hare this year! The hare is one of 50 as part of the Small Hare Passport Trail. The hares can be found all over Cirencester and this little one is located at Cirencester Hospital. There are 6 small hares to see up at the hospital; each one decorated by a different department. I decorated the admininstration team's hare.

Please check out some more photos after the jump...

Happy 2015!

A bit late, but I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and New Year!

I was a very busy bee at the end of 2014 working on a couple of exciting commissions, which I can hopefully share soon. In the meantime, here is a christmas illustration I did for my cousin's baby boy who lives over in New York!

Jackson Roy

This is an illustration I did for my cousin's beautiful baby boy Jackson Roy. I worked on it this time last year just in time for his christening. I believe it is now hanging in the nursery in the "family gallery" where my uncle has also got some work exhibited!!

High Five Magazine Cover!

I've got a very exciting delivery in the post this week! Earlier in the year I worked on a fun commission for the US children's magazine High Five and illustrated the front cover of their November issue. The brief involved bears, autumn, knitting and jumpers...some of my favourite things! It was a lovely brief to work on and it's an amazing feeling to think my artwork is all over the US at the moment! My cousin, who lives in New York, went on a hunt for a copy and bought hers in Barnes & Noble New York! Yay! Please let me know if you live in the US and see the magazine...it's out now!

2014 Update!

Mr Beaver takes a walk!

Hello, long time no blog! Can't believe I haven't posted since April 2013, time has just flown by! I'm still here though and still working away in my studio here in Cheltenham. I've worked on a couple of commissions outside of my day job, the most recent being the cover art for a US children's magazine called High Five. It's the November issue which is out now!! I haven't seen a physical copy yet, but my lovely cousin who lives in New York has taken some pictures of it for me in Barnes and Noble! I'm pretty excited to think that my illustration is currently all over America and as soon as I get a physical copy I will definitely be sharing the artwork here alongside some photographs. Here is a photo she sent me...exciting stuff!:

My most recent piece is Mr Beaver above who is off on some kind of walking adventure! I'm not exactly sure where he's going yet, but we will see!

Please let me know if you are in the US and see a copy of High Five, it would make my day!

BLOOM 8th - 14th May

This lovely image is the poster for an upcoming exhibition I'm involved in this May entitled BLOOM. The show is taking place at the beautiful Gardens Gallery in Cheltenham, where I have previously exhibited with the lovely GradGallery collective.

The exhibition will showcase the work of five creatives including myself, Sophia Bloxham, Liz Clayton, Emma Ridgway and Katie Thomas (who designed this fabulous poster!). Please click on their names to visit their websites/blogs to check out their work. There will be a variety of illustration and design on show and, as always, there will be lots of lovely prints, originals, postcards and greetings cards for sale!

Hope you can make it along to the exhibition, please pop in and say hello if you are in the area!

Dogs In Knitwear

Hello everyone and Happy Sunday! Just a bit of fun with these two illustrations, if you follow me on Twitter you may have already seen a glimpse of them! They were inspired by an old knitting pattern for doggy jumpers my Gran found in a charity shop. There are three more I've still got to paint and I'll post a pic of the knitting pattern with the rest of them because it's so funny! Hope you like them. You can follow me on Twitter here... Happy Easter!

Happy Easter to everyone! Hope you are all having a lovely, relaxing weekend and enjoying your chocolate eggs!

I'm afraid I don't have an Easter illustration to share with you, but instead here is a little character study I've been working on recently. One of my NY resolutions this year was to become more confident with drawing and painting children/people characters and this is my first attempt. I want to move on to doing characters more suited to picture books, but I figure this is a good start!

Please follow the link to take a look at my painting process...

A little update!

Hello! This a long overdue update for my poor blog!

I've been a busy bee recently with my day job, but I've been working on an alphabet illustration after my 9-5 and finished it up this weekend. It was originally an animal alphabet, but a few insects sneaked their way in!

Here are a few details of some of my favourites...

I posted a few snippets of this illustration on twitter a few days ago and here is the finished piece! The furry creature on the edge of the pond is a water vole if you are curious!
